Overview
About this product
Medi-Lap is a complete laparoscopic and thoracoscopic training simulator built for surgeons who want to rehearse real approaches rather than generic box-trainer drills. The abdomen-shaped torso accepts multiple port positions, so a trainee can set up the exact triangulation used in the case they are preparing for and practise working through it.
The kit pairs a rotatable 11-inch screen with a 30° endoscope, giving the angled view and the ergonomic constraints of real laparoscopy — including the disorientation of an off-axis camera, which is where most of the early learning curve sits. A wide range of instruments and interchangeable modules cover basic skills through to suturing, anastomosis and tumour removal.
Medi-Lap Mini is the portable companion: a compact desk trainer with an adjustable 1080p USB camera that plugs straight into a laptop. It suits registrars, medical students and consultants keeping their skills warm between lists, and accepts the same style of practice modules for cutting, grasping, suturing and knot tying.
MediGroup EBI supports Medi-Lap with laparoscopic and laparo-robotic skills workshops across Australia and New Zealand, so departments can build a structured simulation programme rather than leaving practice to individual initiative.
Features
Key features and benefits
Realistic port placement
The abdomen-shaped torso allows different port configurations, so trainees rehearse the triangulation of the actual procedure rather than a fixed drill.
30° angled optics
An angled endoscope reproduces the off-axis view that drives most of the laparoscopic learning curve, on a rotatable 11-inch screen.
Modular skills progression
Basic practice modules through to suture, anastomosis and tumour removal modules support a graded curriculum.
Portable Mini version
Medi-Lap Mini brings the same skills practice to a desk with an adjustable 1080p USB camera and laptop connection.
Clinical use
Applications and indications
Surgical training programmes
Structured skills curricula for registrars and fellows, with modules that progress from camera navigation to intracorporeal suturing.
Departmental skills labs
A shared trainer for theatre teams to maintain currency between complex minimally invasive lists.
Home and desk practice
Medi-Lap Mini lets trainees rehearse knot tying and suturing outside scheduled lab time.

Technical
Important technical information
- Set port positions to match the procedure being rehearsed before starting a session.
- Practise with the 30° scope rotated off-axis — camera navigation is the first skill to consolidate.
- Replace suture and anastomosis module pads as they wear to keep tissue feedback realistic.
- Clean instruments after each session and store the endoscope in its protective case.
- An optional lifting trolley is available for the Trainer where the unit moves between rooms.
