Platelet-rich plasma concentrates a patient's own platelets and the growth factors they release, then delivers them to the tissue being treated. The clinical result depends heavily on how the PRP was prepared.

The therapy

A small volume of blood is drawn, centrifuged to separate its components, and the platelet-rich fraction is collected and injected at the point of care. It is used in tendinopathy and joint injection, chronic and post-surgical wounds, and dermatological and hair-restoration protocols.

Because the product is autologous, it is prepared and used within the same appointment, with no laboratory transport or storage step.

Why preparation method matters

Platelet yield, leucocyte content and sterility all vary with technique, which is a major reason published PRP results vary between studies. Open pipetting introduces both contamination risk and operator-to-operator variability.

Closed, single-use separation devices keep the plasma layer inside the kit and use a defined spin protocol, so the concentration delivered is reproducible between operators and sessions.
